How dare they make fun of us?!!? - Canadian anchor appears on screen in full veil to mock niqab-only TV

Our friend Michael Coren has ruffled a few feathers, or got a few people hot under the burqa in the Persian Gulf region for making fun of Eqypt's new TV station that requires its on-air personnel to wear portable tents.

Khomeinists plan hate rally at Toronto`s Queen`s Park

Last year, one of the low points in civic engagement in Ontario was an anti-Semitic hate rally at Queen’s Park held by local Shia Muslim organizations to commemorate what they refer to as “al Quds Day.” This is an event in the Shia calendar initiated by the brutal Iranian despot Ayatollah Khomeini to try to garner support for the destruction of the Jewish state and the so-called liberation of the Holy Land of Israel from the Jews, to be replaced by an Islamic state.

Politicians of al stripes were shocked and embarrassed that an event was held at the seat of Ontario’s government that was anti-Semitic and featured hate mongers like Zafar Bangash, a notorious supporter of the vicious Iranian dictatorship which persecutes and murders dissidents and minorities.  Last year, Bangash called for a Jihad against Jerusalem whereby Islamic law would be imposed upon Israel.

In a startling new development, another ‘al Quds Day’ rally at Queen’s Park on August 18 was just announced by a group calling itself the al Quds Committee.

The Sergeant-at-Arms of the Ontario Legislature must approve all demonstrations held at Queens Park. As of 9 am  today (July 31), the Sergeant-of Arms office confirms that an application for the al Quds Day demonstration has been submitted but not yet approved.

al Starzeera publishes orchestrated response by rogues' gallery of anti-Israel lunatics

In response to a column in al Starzeera News (The Toronto Star) by Dow Marmur urging the United Church of Canada should reject a proposed boycott of Israeli settlement products, it published a collection of letters supporting the anti-Israel position.

That article was part of an orchestrated response by a deceitfully named pro Iranian organization called Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East.

Among the array of names on the less-than-distinguished list of letter writers were two bastions of local anti-Israel lunacy. One was Sheryl Nestel, an Ontario Institute for Studies in Education instructor who has managed to distinguish herself as the thesis adviser for an anti-Semitic paper that managed to humiliate the institute, bring its academic standards into disrepute and embarrass the University of Toronto as a whole, as well as being the go-to adviser for some other crackpot theses.

The other is a fringe conspiracy theorist named Karin Brothers, a fixture at anti-Israel gatherings, whose performance at a hate rally last year caused even the anti-Zionist United Church of Canada to disassociate itself from her.

One might think al Starzeera might do a little research before presenting such people as representative readers. Then again, given what that newspaper stands for, they may indeed be totally and accurately representative of what they are about.

But one does have to credit the United Church about one aspect to all of this. For a denomination whose average member is old enough to collect Social Security, and whose questioning of basic Christian tenets   has rendered itself completely irrelevant to anything, they must be pleased about the rare attention they have garnered.

Politically correct sociologists outraged at study of Gay parents

Homosexuality is a natural facet of animal behavior in some circumstances, and the obvious reason that it occurs in nature is for population reduction.

I support Gay marriage, but it really is no shock that children have worse outcomes being raised by same-sex partners than by two biological parents.

But don't ever dare say that in public, or a storm of outraged, politically-correct, substandard academics will bay like wolves.

United Church of Canada leadership takes a hit from Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center

"...the United Church leadership, when it comes to the issue of Israel, demonstrates neither Christian principles of love nor a fair-minded interest in a peaceful settlement to the Palestinian/Israeli dispute. Instead, they behave as dilettantes who want to be seen as having the particular idea of “progressive” social justice as advocated by a radical left that is heavily partisan against Israel and the United States."

When Egyptians Go Wild!

This clip from MEMRI TV is incredible.

It's an Egyptian Prank'd/Candid Camera type show and the joke is that Egyptian actors who thought they were doing an interview for a German TV show are then told they are on Israeli TV with a bunch of Jews around them.

They actors go nuts and this gives you an indication of the barbarity and psychotic hate that is really what the Egyptian Arab Spring is all about. One of these animals viciously assaults a woman because he thinks she is a Jew. Then when he finds out she isn't, the fat, disgusting pig makes sexual overtures to her, ofering to rub lotion on her back.

The disgusting actors in on the prank aren't any better - they praise the thugs who assaulted them for their "patriotic" Jew hate.

Welcome to the future of the subhuman Islamic Republic of Egypt

Despite what you're hearing, leftists are losing the culture wars

When I was in university, oh so many years ago now, I noticed a consistent characteristic among my contemporaries who were immersed in political activism - they were all assholes.

There weren't that many of them. When we`re in our late teens and early twenties, most of us are wrapped up in trying get laid, have fun, get our assignments in on time, recover from hangovers, pass our courses and dream lofty, ambitious dreams of our future. There may have been an issue or two to get each of us temporarily riled up, but it took a special class of person to be continually devoted to aggressively ramming political and social issues down other people`s throats. Invariably, back then, everyone I knew who who fit that description was a leftist. There may have been young conservative activists, but if there were, they operated with exceptional stealth, because I never met any.

Most of the young activists I remember were socially maladroit, had bad relationships with their parents, and seemed to be acting out some inner turmoil. The worst part about such people is that, while far from shining examples of humanity, they want to dictate how other people should think and behave.

Therein lies the problem with most of our "social justice" zealots; the stylized social justice they promote is frequently self-serving, hypocritical and fatuous.

It is troublesome that the agenda pushed by the radical left has been overwhelmingly advocated by a sympathetic television, film and print media, hoping to impart values they want society as a whole to assimilate. But despite their self congratulation, indications are that common sense is winning out and the left isn't nearly as influential as they think they are.

For years now, the video game industry has been making more money than the film industry and commanding far more attention from makes under the age of 30. This is an age group that couldn't care less what Jon Stewart, George Strombolopolis, Bill Maher, Michael Moore and Chris Matthews have to say about anything, let alone politics. To be fair, Rush Limbaugh and Mark Steyn hold just as little if not less interest for teenage and young adult males.  But the latter may take some comfort in the entertainment they do flock to.

Daniel Tosh, who recently became the bane of humorless feminists because of a rape joke, has the highest rated television show for young male on any US cable network, followed closely by the libertarian, anti-hippie South Park. It's also worth noting that the hero of the most popular movie of the year is a rich, capitalist vigilante.

The Call of Duty series is the most popular video game series ever. In the last installment of its Black Ops game, the villains were Communists. In the newest installment, Call of Duty Black Ops 2, which looks set to be one of the most popular releases ever, in a move that has already infuriated leftists, the villain is a presumptive leader of the vapid Occupy Movement. The game's bad guy, Raul Menendez, is described at the "messiah for the 99%."

So while irrelevant aged radicals try to self promote and capitalize on the anti-capitalist Occupy Movement and delusionally claim the few scraggly malcontents it managed to conjure were representative of youth as a whole, reality is something very different. Ironically, it's virtual reality where the real attitudes of the up-and-coming generation are reflected, and they aren't interested in being part of the radical left, they play games where they pretend to kill them.

Given the 100 million deaths in the real world that Communism has caused since its inception, a prevailing violent rejection and hostility to it in the world of gaming is a comforting cause for optimism about the future.

Outer Space Stinks!

When astronauts return from space walks and remove their helmets, they are welcomed back with a peculiar smell. An odor that is distinct and weird: something, astronauts have described it, like "seared steak." And also: "hot metal." And also: "welding fumes."
Our extraterrestrial explorers are remarkably consistent in describing Space Scent in meaty-metallic terms. "Space," astronaut Tony Antonelli has said, "definitely has a smell that's different than anything else." Space, three-time spacewalker Thomas Jones has put it, "carries a distinct odor of ozone, a faint acrid smell."
Space, Jones elaborated, smells a little like gunpowder. It is "sulfurous.
Add to all those anecdotal assessments the recent discovery, in a vast dust cloud at the center of our galaxy, of ethyl formate -- and the fact that the ester is, among other things, the chemical responsible for the flavor of raspberries. Add to that the fact that ethyl formate itself smells like rum. Put all that together, and one thing becomes clear: The final frontier sort of stinks.

Why is it a surprise that the people who devised something called "SlutWalk" aren't geniuses?

A couple of years ago a Toronto cop trying to provide some self-protection tips to women after a string of sexual assaults at York University tells them no to "dress like sluts" if they are walking around alone late at night. A poor choice of words to be sure, but the incident became distorted into a shrill "he's blaming the victim!" trope.  An elderly person has a right to walk around the dangerous projects at Jane and Finch with money hanging out of their pockets, but that too is a bad idea, given the realities of the world. There are bad people out there and it is sensible to take measures to protect yourself from them.

The issue should have gone away, but some enterprising, self-promoting lefty women decided a marketing scheme could be spawned of this and the SlutWalk was born, along with its official t-shirts, water bottles and buttons, all sold at a handsome profit.

So for two years now, in Toronto and  other cities, an addle-minded sisterhood march occurs punctuated with a few lamprey-like, soppy, pathetic men who feign sensitivity and compassion while hoping to meet some genuine sluts. As a matter of principle, the gathering of people to denounce sexual violence and the right of women to walk the streets safely is admirable, but is far from a new idea; Take Back The Night walks have been around since the mid 1970's.

The SlutWalk twist is the angle that women have the right to be sluts, but only with whom they choose. While that right is indisputable (at least in civilized western countries) the idea of taking to the streets to declare it is another manifestation of narcissistic activists self-promoting than any tangible blow for women's rights or safety.

While there's no evidence that the SlutWalks have prevented a single sexual assault or altered anyone's views towards promiscuity, they have garnered some measure of attention for the event's founders and organizers. Unfortunately for them, they have fallen into an easily-set trap that shows that they are not-to bright and hypocritical.

That exposure came about through the publicizing of a Toronto Muslim street preacher's call for legislation forcing women to wear modest clothing in order to, in the opinion of Al-Haashim Kamena Atangana,  prevent their being raped.

While Atangana is not a person of great significance within the Muslim community, when pronouncement became a news item, it more or less forced women's organizations to take a stand. Virtually all those contacted by The Toronto Sun, which first reported the matter, condemned the preposterous proposal.

The notable exception was SlutWalk's founders and organizers, who decided that they were more as outraged with Sun News than they were with Mr. Atagana. Histrionically accusing Sun News of misogyny and the same type of "blame the victim" mentality as the preacher, SlutWalk's spokespeople revealed their vapidity and politically-correct hypocrisy.

Coming from the Marxist school of thought that divides the world into a binary equation of oppressor and oppressed, SlutWalk's organizers are more fearful of being accused of "Islamophobia" than of seriously being pro-women's rights.

Women's rights are routinely assailed within Islam, even in progressive Toronto, yet SlutWalk 's attention seekers are firmly ensconced among the useful idiots of the left who go after the soft, safe targets of government authority while turning a blind eye to the real threats that face women.

So they are more interested in launching shrill attacks against The Sun's columnists like Anthony Furey, who wrote about their hypocrisy. Though what Mr. Atangana proposed is far more egregious and draconian than anything Toronto Police Constable Michael Sanguinetti said that instigated the Slut Walks, the brand has now become the issue for SlutWalk, and we can now see that the brand stands for nothing.

Rather than actually doing anything tangible to fight for women, SlutWalk is content in showing their supposed moral superiority through tiresome hysteria towards Daniel Tosh, who made a joke about rape. Tosh's joke was in poor taste, but was as genuine an advocacy of rape as a joke about Luka Magnotta is a genuine advocacy of murder and cannibalism.

None of this, of course, is in any way surprising. After all, it would be silly to expect anything but ditziness from people who would create something called a Slut Walk.  The only surprise is that people would expect anything other than that from them.

There are so many things that confuse me about this story.

Fred Willard, the 72 year old comic actor known for being Martin Mull's sidekick on Fernwood Tonight, as well as countless TV and movie appearances, was arrested for "lewd behavior" in an 'adult' theater in Los Angeles.

OK - first of all...there are still "adult" theaters!??!

The guy is 72! How lewd could it have been (and maybe he should be pleased he still can be lewd at that age)?

Why is it alright for lewd behavior to be on screen but not in the seats?

Oh Pee Wee Herman..look what you started!!!

First Nations National Chief election shows the majority of the Native community are determined to be responsible

Leading up to the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) leadership election, it sounded like Shawn Atleo was going to have a tough time getting re-elected as national chief: He was facing seven vocal challengers and trying to refute accusations that he was an assimilationist who’d grown too close to the Conservative government.
Yet not only did Atleo win, he did so quite handily under the circumstances, taking a majority in the first ballot and wrapping the whole thing up in the third with 67% of the vote. The claims that he has divided the chiefs and made life worse for First Nations during his tenure ring somewhat hollow given these results, especially when it’s remembered that it took Atleo eight ballots to get elected the first time, three years ago.
If part of what Atleo’s critics and opponents had hoped to achieve was more confrontational rhetoric, they attained a small victory there: Atleo didn’t exactly talk trash about the feds, but his post re-election speech included a renewed promise to “open doors, or kick them down,” and a rallying cry to “put the final stake in colonization.” He followed up with the crowd-pleasing claim that “no government has acted in good faith.”
Of course, none of that changed the fact that the chiefs strongly re-elected a man who has chosen to try to work with, rather than petulantly butt heads against, the government.

Norman Bethune - A National Film Board of Canada documentary

This documentary about Norman Bethune was directed in 1964 for the NFB by Donald Brittain.

Many colleagues and people who knew him were interviewed.

A very interesting subject as Bethune's support for Mao Tze Dong has become a controversial matter regarding the Canadian government's involvement with a Bethune Memorial.

It is worth noting that Bethune went to help Mao well before the Chinese Communist leader became the mass murdering dictator that history remembers. Bethune was an ardent fighter against fascism and a physician whose support for socialized medicine came about at a time when the poor were denied essential medical treatment because they were unable to pay for it.

Did you hear the one about the idiot who went to the Daniel Tosh show?

Today's tempest in a teapot revolves around an offended audience member at a Daniel Tosh show at the Laugh Factory in Los Angeles.

When asked for topics to discuss, someone in the crowd suggested "rape" and after Tosh made a sarcastic remark about rape jokes being always funny, one outraged attendee shouted out, "Actually, rape jokes are never funny!"

The heckle, unsurprisingly, was like blood in the water for Tosh, who then mused about how funny it would be if the heckler got gang raped in the club during his set.

Rape of course isn't funny, but Tosh is one of those comedians for whom no topic is off limits. His jokes are frequently racist, homophobic, misogynistic, gross, and very funny.

After a blog post by the aggrieved party, a campaign is now underway by humorless feminists (yes, I know that term is tautological) to have Viacom punish Tosh, whose Comedy Central show Tosh.0 is one of that network's most successful programs.

But the question remains, what kind of idiot would actually attend a show by Daniel Tosh, who is renowned for being offensive, and them complain because they were offended?

Why is the government handing over $1 Million to the Sea Hitler organizers?

Alternatives International is a Montreal-based non-governmental agency that has been accorded charity status by Revenue Canada. Describing itself as "social and political movements struggling against social injustices, neoliberalism, imperialism and war," their actual charitable work is rather difficult to determine.

One of Alternatives' activities last year was to serve as the financial conduit for the Canadian boat that attempted to break the sea blockade imposed around the Gaza strip by Israel in order to prevent arms smuggling by Iran and Hezbollah in Lebanon. That boat, derisively known as The Sea Hitler, was intercepted by Israel's navy after repeated warnings by the Canadian and Israeli governments against sailing to Gaza. (Currently, its Canadian owner, Sandra Ruch, is trying to launch a far-fetched lawsuit to recover the Comoros-registered vessel) .

From Alternatives' 2011 tax filing
According to its tax-filings for the 2011 calendar year, Alternatives received $685,172 from the federal government and $409,117 from provincial government (presumably Quebec) sources. That's over a million taxpayer dollars to the radical Sea Hitler organizers.

Whether Alternatives International has violated the regulations for charitable activities by intentionally engaging in activities that place both Canadians and Israelis at risk is an interesting question.

What is more clear is Alternatives' agenda. On its board sits an individual named Ali Mallah. A close confederate of notorious Khomeinist hatemonger Zafar Bangash, Mallah, a burly, perpetually unkempt Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) organizer is a fixture among the most virulent anti-Israel fanatics in Canada. He was the vice president of the Canadian Arab Federation when that organization lost its federal funding after Citizenship and Immigration Minister Jason Kenney identified it as being anti-Semitic.

Alternatives is currently the conduit for funds for another attempt to break Israel's sea embargo of the terrorist-controlled Gaza strip. This time by trying to launch the boat from Gaza.

The delivery of tax funds to an organization that seems to be engaged in activities designed to undermine Canadian foreign policy goals could be seen as not only wasteful but irresponsible. Newly appointed International Cooperation Minister Julian Fantino, who is now responsible for the Canadian International Development Agency has said he will ensure "that every nickel of taxpayer money is spent for the right reasons." A good way for him to start would be to review federal handouts to Alternatives International and put a stop to the almost three and a half million nickels it receives annually from the federal government.

What the hell, I like beef as much as the next guy

I received a link to this video from someone at the beef marketing board in Australia.

I wouldn't normally put up an ad video someone sent me, but it's a well done beef ad (sorry about the pun), the Aussies will understand the political gag, and I have a particular affinity for Oz, having spent some very good time there a number of years ago. (And God help me, for reasons I don't know, on some small level I still have a soft spot for Mel Gibson).

In case you doubted Niall Ferguson knows what he's talking about

This video is well worth watching. It was recorded about a year and a half ago just after the fall of Hosni Mubarak in Egypt. In it British historian and author Niall Ferguson precisely predicted the events that have now unfolded with the recent election of the Muslim Brotherhood candidate for Eqypt's presidency.

What is also worth noting are his criticisms of US President Obama's dismal failure to have a handle on foreign policy. That applies now as much as it did when he made these remarks.

Promotion of violence from the airheads at OISE

No one familiar with the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education gets surprised any longer by the idiotic fanaticism that goes on there.

They have programs that tacitly defend forced female genital mutilation, that are anti-Semitic, overtly anti-Western and largely anti-democratic. Sadly this institution produces people who go on to be senior school administrators and policy advisers to various provincial Ministries of Education.

Their latest gem is this gathering of morons on July 12 called:

Palestine to Philippines: It’s Right to Rebel

Internationalist Solidarity and Resistance Against Occupation and Counter-Insurgency
In other words OISE-approved terrorism and violence. Charming, huh? Your tax dollars help support travesties like this.

And for added insult to the University of Toronto, the fees it  forcibly extracts from students for "activities" and are funneled into the radical communist Ontario Public Interest Research Group is helping to pay for it.

The Gay community deserves better than an annual festival of depravity

The joie de vivre there should have been more of in Pride 2012
Characterized as the civil rights issue of our generation,  the struggle for Gay rights in Canada is a battle that has been won. Now the main threat against homosexual status in this country is the descent into unintended self-parody.

Homosexuality has moved from being treated as a degenerate crime to a form of mental illness to a natural facet of human behavior within the span of a hundred years. That, of course, is in advanced western societies. Though a constant embarrassment to western cultural relativists, it remains that in parts of the Caribbean and Africa, Gays still face legal sanctions and in almost every Muslim country they are subject to severest forms of state-sanctioned persecution.

But here, in Canada, in 2012, Gays have achieved full equality under the law. That and the many contributions that members of Canada's Gay community have made to every segment of our society are worth celebrating.

Like any other community, Gays represent a variety of individuals with a countless range of perspectives, and as is the goal of other civil rights fights, the outcome should be the right to be treated like everyone else.

Queers Against Israeli Apartheid?
Next year,
consider joining Queers Against Tim Hortons

Pride, at least in Toronto, isn't about equality. It's about special interests hijacking a movement. At the Pride parade last Sunday, to be sure, there were groups from banks, theatre shows, unions, and a variety of credible organizations.

But there were also groups of depraved sado-masochists wearing nothing but the piercings in their genitalia or the occasional leather mask making them look like "the gimp" from Pulp Fiction. There were lunatic "intactivist" anti-circumcision fanatics whose appearance  suggested a recent escape from a mental institution,  a "polyamoury" group whose members were hideous-looking enough to discourage sexual relationships of any sort, and that is to say nothing of the imbecilic political losers like the perennial outcasts of Queers Against Israeli Apartheid, the NDP Socialist Caucus, Canada's Maoists, and the Communist Party of Canada. None of these parasitical misfits are representative of the achievements of Canada's Gay community. What they accomplish is to debase what should be a celebration of a great victory of rights into a disgraceful display of narcissism and self-indulgence, arming homophobes with more of the stereotypes that the Gay community has been trying to overcome for half a century.

Oh, great! Someone brought an 11 year old girl (in pink)
to spend time with some naked perverts.
Yup..those Intactivists are complete sane!
The lesson here is obvious. It's time for the real Gay community to take back its Pride. The festival is run by a self-interested clique with the mentality of spoiled adolescents. The St. Patrick's Day Parade doesn't feature a contingent of nude Irish porn stars acting out sex scenes, or Irish Maoists, or a group of "Irish against Jews."  It's time for Toronto's Pride to grow up and own the confidence to stop giving the lunatic fringe a claim on the mainstream in what is supposed to be a celebration of Gay culture.

The Gay community in Canada has so much to be proud of, from athletes like Mark Tewksbury, to wonderful authors like Timothy Findley and musicians like kd lang, and politicians like Ian Scott and Scott Brison, social activists like Martin Gladstone, journalists like Sue Ann Levy and on and on. As it stands, Toronto's festival doesn't show Gay pride so much as the worst aspects of Gay society. Being at Pride this year I was reminded of the old joke: "what sort of people go to nudist colonies?..The sort of people who shouldn't go to nudist colonies."

Is this what the Gay community wants to be known as being "proud" of?
Gays have every right to be proud, but for that pride to reach its true potential,  the next fight for Gay rights  may have to be within the Gay community itself.

More pics of what Pride shouldn't be here and here.
